Repetitive Stress Injury or RSI is something that happens to many people. It is a work related injury. RSI will normally affect those that are sitting at a desk every day for hours on end, or standing in a production line hour after hour.
These things take a toll on your body and your body does let you know these things. Though, if you don’t know what to look for in the first place then how are you going to know what to do about them.
There are many repetitive stress injury warning signs that people ignore for many reasons. They may be on a tight schedule, they may have an hourly quota, or they are under a lot of stress to finish a project. People should not ignore the warning signs of RSI whatever may be the reasons.
Common Warning Signs of Repetitive Stress Injury
Some signs are subtle, while others are more pronounced. The common warning signs of repetitive stress injury are fatigue, inability to pick items up, hold on to items securely, tremors, and inability to stop hands, knees, or legs from shaking.
With repetitive stress injury you can have recurring pain and/or soreness in your neck, upper back, shoulders, wrists, or hands. You can have tingling, numbness, coldness, or loss of sensations in these areas as well.
One should stop working, drink some water, and wait until they stop when encountered with these repetitive stress injury symptoms. The person should seek medical attention if these symptoms persist for a few days because the damage could be worse than anticipated.
Repetitive stress injury warning signs are only the beginning of the potential pain that a person may suffer. A person’s joint could stiffen permanently which could cause a person to lose their job if left untreated.
For People Who Work in Offices, Factories
Injuries to the body could be very serious for those who work in offices, factories, and other high impact jobs, and should be treated immediately. The person will have to alter how they sit, type, the amount of breaks they take and how they lift heavier items once these signs occur.
Many companies offer training courses in how to move the body while working. They also implement programs that help people recover from these injuries while educating others on how to improve their workstations.
While not all companies offer programs, some will provide employees with safe equipment including comfortable chairs, arm and wrist rests, mats, and back supports for those who have to lift heavy items.
For Persons Working from Home
If a person works from home, they should take frequent breaks, drink plenty of water, and they should only work two or three hours at a time. They should also buy office equipment that is comfortable and will protect the hands, wrists, knees, and feet from injury.
Even though people oftentimes ignore the warning signs of repetitive stress injury, this does not mean that they are not in pain. Even if the pain is infrequent, people may be causing long-term damage to their bodies.
Other Warning Signs of Repetitive Stress Injury
Trouble getting dressed, swollen hands and toes, and inability to grab or take items from others are other warning signs of repetitive stress injury. People should do what they can to keep repetitive stress from developing or from getting worse.
Life is too short not to pay attention to the things that are going on around you or the things that are going on with your body. You shouldn’t be walking around with pain that you can fix, if you just knew what it was and how to treat it. See your doctor to find out more about repetitive stress injury and if you have it.
