Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Illustration

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a pinched nerve (called the Median nerve) in the wrist. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is the inflammatory disorder that is caused due to repetitive stress, physical injury or any other condition that causes the tissues around the median nerve to inflated.

The causes of carpal tunnel syndrome are

  • Repetition
  • High force
  • Awkward joint posture
  • Direct pressure
  • Vibration, and
  • Prolonged constrained posture.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Illustration – Symptoms:

Pain, aching, swelling, and diminished coordination of injured areas.

Tingling, numbness or paresthesia affecting the thumb, index, middle and half of the ring finger.

Loss of strength in the hands.

Tightness, discomfort, stiffness or pain on the front side of the hands/wrists.

Aching and stabbling pain on the entire back side of the affected area.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Illustration – Treatment

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is treated in surgical and non-surgical ways. Non-surgical treatments methods are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), Laser Light Therapy, Ultrasound etc. The surgical methods are Open Release surgery, Mini open release surgery, Endoscopy and the Percutaneous Balloon Carpal tunnel plastry. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Illustration –Exercises:

The Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can be avoided by doing some simple exercises (Carpal Tunnel Exercise)

  • A simple exercise for Carpal Tunnel Syndromeis to squeeze a tennis ball 30-100 times with each hand.
  • After that   Extend left arm straight in front of you with palm up. Use your right hand to bend wrist down. Feel stretch in forearm.  Hold 30 seconds
  • After that Extend the left arm straight in the front of you palm down Use your right hand to bend wrist down. Fell stretch in forearm. Hold 30 seconds.
