Soft Tissue Injury Can Be A Result From Any Repetitive Motion

While studies have been able to demonstrate that soft tissue injury can result from repetitive motion, what exactly constitutes repetitive stress is something worth considering.
Work related activities or other activities that a person indulges in at home; say a certain kind of hobby could also as easily be classified as repetitive motion and could be what causes the injury.
Imagine a person has a hobby which involves hours of crocheting at home and that person is by day a typist or a person involved in data entry.
Both activities could be classified as repetitive motion and both could be the cause of soft tissue injury.
Another instance would be that of a person working at a warehouse say, who was involved in lot of lifting on a day to day basis.
However, since he also has a part time job shoveling snow or raking leaves to make himself some more money, it is not clear which of the two activities has caused that injury.
So while it is true that repetitive motion could be caused at home and at work it is still a good idea to incorporate principles of ergonomic design in the work place. This is seen to improve productivity, limit injury and therefore absenteeism, and also lower workers’ compensation costs.
