Is Your Professional Life Shortening Your Real Life?

Statistics tell us that a life tied to a desk and consequently a sedentary lifestyle results in a multitude of problems; and may perhaps be responsible for one third of the deaths that result from colon cancer, heart disease and diabetes. So sitting is bad; but standing may be better, keeping you more active, agile and helping you burn more calories.
So if you don’t want to buy a new special standing desk, perhaps you could try a low cost, low tech substitute: elevate your regular desk by placing a small desk or a shelf topper on your regular work surface.
You can get two, one for the monitor and one for the keyboard. Make the adjustments and fine tuning to make sure that the ergonomics of the situation are properly catered to.

The keyboard should be at a height that keeps your arms parallel to the floor, wrists straight and the monitor and keyboard placed at the optimum distance. Keep a tall stool to settle on when you get tired.
Try this for a few days and see if this works for you; then if it does, perhaps you may think of making the investment for a proper standing desk!
