Obviously for maximum productivity and economic health, a healthy workforce, with maximum working days is a prerequisite. When job related and stress related injuries such as back pain, upper limb pain etc strike, it can lower productivity, work days and morale as well.
It is the job of ergonomists to minimize this loss of productivity. However, what it is that the ergonomists themselves have to do to be effective at their job?
- An ergonomist should be scientifically and technically sound, should be well trained in his job and be aware of the latest product developments and research conducted in the field.
- An ergonomist should have good communication skills and be able to build up a rapport with the workers in an office to better understand their requirements and needs.
- The office ergonomist should be able to manage and deliver business proposals so that he or she is better able to bring about the requisite change in the organisation.
- He or she should be able to assess a given situation quickly and accurately to identify the issues facing the workers as well as the management and thereafter make business recommendations that will yield results for the betterment of the work force as well as the organization.
