Tips For Ergonomic Laptop Use

It is true that laptops are invaluable to those who need portability and flexibility in their work; however it is also true that laptops are not ideal for long term use.

They are built for convenience and ease of portability; not necessarily for ergonomics and sooner or later one will notice the strain.

  • Try to be in as neutral a position as possible when using the laptop. For this, the keyboard should be at a height a bit lower than the elbows so that your hands are relaxed. For this it may be necessary to use an external ergonomic keyboard and mouse or a keyboard tray.
  • The feet should be firmly resting on the ground and the chair should not catch you behind the knees.
  • The chair you sit on should have lumbar support so that your lower back is supported.
  • It may be necessary to elevate the laptop screen to eye level so that you don’t have to strain to look at the screen. This again is possible only if you use external keyboard and mouse because otherwise your hands will be at an impossible angle.
