Working From Home? Ways To Reduce Stress (Part I)

working from homeIf, like an increasing number of professionals you work from home, either entirely or partly, or telecommute to your office, then it is more than likely that you are facing some of the pressures and stresses that go with the territory.

Schedule your time: It’s true that one of the chief benefits of working from home is that you can pick your own hours and make your own work timings, however it helps if you are able to set a time table and more or less keep to it.

Apportion a certain number of hours to working each day and try not to get carried away trying to finish more and more, lest it is at the expense of other things such as spending time with children, doing chores, and having some quality leisure time as well.

Set aside the time for work when you are likely to be most productive and effective. When children are at school, it is an excellent time to work since this is the time that you will have the least number of distractions, disturbances and disorders in the house.

Morning time, when you are your freshest and least fatigued may also be ideal. A good schedule will give you time to do everything: your work, household chores, spending quality family time as well as some quality time to yourself!

Make your own space: It helps to have room or at least a certain segment devoted to your work station which can be your work area.

Children and others in the family should be made to understand that your work is as important as anyone else’s and that it is to be respected.

Some rules for when you are working can be enforced, such as no loud games, no barging in for no reason etc. make the work area your own space so that people perceive it as inviolable for the most part.

Don’t Waste Time: It is fun to be part of online forums, to be on social networking sites and interact with friends, and to just surf the net for endless interesting stuff, so certainly you must keep aside some time for that.

However don’t get so lost in it that you lose track of what actual work is required to be done. You can begin with 15 minutes of the fun stuff followed by some hours of work. Then take a Facebook break or a Myspace and then get back to work without being carried away.
