What are the Three Reaching Zones?

When using computers, there are three reaching zones that you would typically work within: the primary reaching zone covers items that you will use frequently, even constantly while working on the computer.
The secondary reaching zone is for things that you use regularly but infrequently and the tertiary zone deals with things that you don’t use much and which do not need to be within easy reach.
The primary reaching zone should certainly include the two things that you use most when on the computer; the keyboard and the mouse.
These should be within easy reach and should be accessible without any effort so that you do not have to reach out for them and so that excessive movements that may cause strain and physical stress are eliminated or considerably reduced.
Things that you use regularly but not that often, such as your phone (for some this should be within the primary reaching zone), a printer or scanner or fax machine etc should be in secondary zone.
The tertiary zone should include all else that you will rarely need in your typical workday. By organizing your items according to your personal reaching zones, you can reduce a lot of physical strain[repetitive strain injury] and injury and can optimize your productivity.
