Togetherville – For Kids Online Safety

It’s being called the Facebook for Kids; an age appropriate social networking site for children aged 6 to 10 called Togetherville. Parents create their kids’ accounts using their own Facebook logins, and supervise their kids’ online activities.

Why would a child that young need to be on a social networking site one may well ask. Well many adults may think there is no need, but kids think otherwise. Though kids under 13 are not supposed to be on Facebook their presence there is rampant.

Togetherville claims to be “a fun, safe social site where kids under 10 can play games, create art, and learn new things, with you (that is parents) and people you know and trust there to supervise.” This networking site aims to help parents create their kids’ safe online neighborhood of friends and family using Facebook – and engage with them wherever they are.

According to CEO and co-founder Mandeep Dhillon, here parents participate directly; this is not a digital babysitter. There are games, pre-screened YouTube videos, even educational applications; as a bonus, there are no ads! It is possible to send virtual gifts bought from the site as well.

As for the status message that you put up on FB, these “quips” are suggested each day by the site itself, which kids can choose from.
