The following are the mousing techniques that help you to avoid wrist pain.
- Check whether the size, shape, and position of the mouse buttons are correct for your hand. The mouse should fit comfortably in your hand [Ergonomic Mouse].
- Place the mouse as close to the side of keyboard as possible.
- When you are moving your mouse do not rest your wrist or forearms on the desk [Reduce Wrist Pain].
- Grip your mouse loosely. Hard grasping of the mouse creates tension in the fingers.
- Do not just use the rest to move the mouse, use the whole arm and shoulder.
- Click the mouse button lightly and gently, unless it creates pain in your fingers.
- Keep the mouse facing directly forward, move it in the directions of north/south, east/west, or diagonally across the pad. Don’t try to move the mouse around.
- Place the mouse so that the back of the mouse sits near the heel of your palm, with your thumb resting gently down one side and your index and the little finger down the other side.
- Position your index finger on the left mouse button and the middle finger on the right mouse button. For left hander it is opposite.
- Use your index finger to manipulate the middle or wheel button on the mouse. Keep the mouse stationary when you double-click.
- Avoid lifting of your smallest finger when using the mouse.
- Move the mouse from your shoulders.
- Keep the back straight and move the mouse so that you can’t experience any pain.
- While operating the mouse, keep the elbows in a natural position by your side and don’t bend the wrist up, down, left or right.
- Hold the mouse by keeping your wrist straight at all times.
