How To Be Safe On Facebook?
Posted on Mar 26, 2010 | Comments 1
Most recently the social networking site Facebook has been blamed of enabling and increasing the incidence of syphilis in parts of the United Kingdom.
In days past, it has been blamed for child suicide, turning people into introverts, causing relationship problem, destroying language, making people feel unattractive and even causing rickets!
While some claims have merit and others are frankly bogus, there are precautions that can be taken to be safe on FB, Twitter, etc.:
- There are privacy settings on FB which let you control who sees your information, pictures, profile, posts and interactions with others. Make proper use of those privacy settings to ensure safety.
- Do not accept friendship requests from random persons. Accept only those friend’s requests that are from people you actually know and trust.
- It is possible to use networks that are location based. You can turn off your check in notifications, which you must do.
- Twitter has a new tool, a location feature that lets you show the city you are in; the neighborhood and even the exact address that you are physically at when you post your tweets.
You can be targeted by scamsters and frauds on social networking sites. Information you share could be used by someone to burgle your house; you could be preyed on by predators, so it pays to be very, very careful!

Being a chiropractic doctor, I like your opinion on this issue. Quite a lot of our customers discuss related matters with me, and it really is exciting that we aren’t the only ones which truly care!
