Factors That Can Lead To Computer Related Injuries!

criNow-a-days, eight hours of work in front of computer is common, but many professionals around the world are finding out that it can be dangerous to the health.

Computer related injuries (CRI) are increasing and many young people are complaining of sharp pains, cramps and numbness due to CRI.

The most common symptoms of CRI are headaches, back pain, neck pain, arm and shoulder pain.

You can get muscle and joint problems when

  • Your work station design is poor
  • You work sitting in a bad posture
  • You perform repetitive actions
  • You work for extended hours

Reasons for computer related injuries:

Not maintaining the curve of spine:

You can understand the correct posture by simply looking at the spine and how it tolerates weight. Your spinal column contains three different curves: cervical curve, thoracic curve and lumbar curve. These three curves are essential because spine is allowed to distribute the body weight equally rather than if the curves were straight.

If you sit by drooping forward, it will force the curves to alter and therefore shifts complete pressure and load to the lumbar and cervical curves and the soft tissues located around them.

Bad posture:

If you sit for longer hours without moving, it can cause fatigue. Circulation to the bones, muscles, ligaments and tendons will decrease if you are immobile. This causes stiffness and pain in your muscles and joints. If you are not maintaining the spine curve that means if your workstation is not set in a proper way, then sitting for longer hours can cause much stress on joints and muscles.

Repetitive actions:

When you use the mouse continuously or spend much time in typing, then it can cause repetitive strains. By repetitive actions and awkward postures, your tendons and muscles will experience pain. For computer users, repetitive actions can cause pain mainly at wrist, elbow or hand.

It will start with pain and then continue to swelling and stiffness of joints. Your muscles can become weak when you experience tingling or numbness symptoms.

Extended hours:

Due to sitting of long hours in front of computer, you will not notice that your muscles are becoming stiff and eyes getting tired, leading to the problem of CRI.

Our body is not designed to stay seated for longer hours. Therefore, you should take break for every one hour to walk around and to perform some stretching exercises for making your muscles flexible.
