Do You Work Without Breaks? You May Be Risking Your Health

According to a new study, working without any breaks results in putting your health at risk. One in four people in the work place may be doing so, according to the study.
Serious health risks could come from working long hours, working while ill or stressed and due to not exercising. And this can result not only in high personal costs for the worker but also high financial costs for the employer.
A British study examined 2,600 working adults; out of these 25% did not even take a break for lunch.
A number of serious health complications could result from such work practices:
- Back pain is an obvious consequence of sitting still in one position for extended periods of time with little or no activity to relieve the stress of the position.
- Obesity is another consequence of having a sedentary job and being inactive all day. Also not taking a break for lunch will mean grabbing something to eat while still working which is not conducive to good health.
- Depression could be another problem that could stem from working constantly, which could mean higher levels of stress.
- Lifestyle related diseases like stroke and heart disease are also problems, which can result from continuous working.
It is therefore advisable for all concerned that employers create a healthier work environment, which can help benefit not only the workers and the society, but also help with the company profit margin.
