Common Posture Mistakes Computer Users Make

Those who spend long hours before computers need to know the hazards of computer related health disorders.

There are so many computer related health disorders like – carpal tunnel syndrome, body pain, back pain, neck pain, abdominal pain, ankle pain, repetitive strain injury, eye strain and others.

These conditions though seem simple or minor body problems, can be serious in the long run.

If they are neglected such disorders can have serious implications to your health and body. Such disorders happen due to dangerous postures during computer use.

While you sit in front of computer or laptop you need to be careful of body postures like position of hand, neck, back, legs and head to avoid such hazards.

A recent survey conducted on such sitting positions found that nearly 72.3% of the computer users don’t sit properly.

They adapt to the dangerous postures during computer use. What are these dangerous positions? Let us have a look at them and find out if you too sit like that.

Sitting with Back Curved: This is a very dangerous posture while you sit before a computer. One should never bend his or her back while sitting in front of computer. This would not only harm the spinal cord, but also put lot of stress on your neck and eyes.

When you curve your back your head moves forward a little thus your eyes come more close to the monitor and its direct radiation.

Even the neck too tilts forward. Sitting regularly in this position for more than five-six hours daily would cause severe back pain, eye strain and neck pain.

Keeping Your Hand Non-Parallel to Floor: While you put your hands on keyboard or mouse, they should be parallel to the floor.

Mostly it is seen that people keep hands in a very different manner which increase the risk of hurting your wrists and causing lot of strain on fingers. Even the arm muscles feel some stress on them. You should always avoid such sitting.

Neck Position: Most people who sit in front of computers tend to bend their neck more than required. A position when your chin is almost touching the Adam’s apple is very dangerous if you keep your head and neck like this for long hours.

Students, game freaks, and web surfers have been found to stay long in such positions thus risking the vertebra of the neck.

Eye and Monitor contact: Looking at the monitor at a stretch for more than 15 minutes is really dangerous for your eyes. While you work on computer you may not realize that but you blink very little.

Blink often to keep your eyes moisturized. You should avoid looking at the monitor for more than 10 minutes at one stretch. Take a break, look at long distant objects or other parts of your room and then again get back to the screen.
