That mechanical rodent in all our lives, the computer mouse, can be the culprit for a lot of repetitive strain related injuries and discomforts.
Reasons being that the clicking and small precise movements that using a mouse require us to make, can be the cause of several problems which can be avoided by doing the following:
- Hold the mouse loosely. If your knuckles show up white that means you are holding it too tight and there is too much tension there.

- When you click, use a light touch.
- Rather than just your wrist, use the entire arm to move the mouse and also don’t rest your forearm on the desk when you use the mouse.
- Your last finger (pinkie) should also come into use; use the entire hand for correctly gripping the mouse.
- The wrist should be in a neutral, relaxed position; it should not be bent when using the mouse which should be at the same level as your keyboard.
- Keep altering your position by rotating your shoulders, moving your feet and hands every 10 minutes or so.
- If you are left handed, make sure your mouse is appropriately configured.
- Make sure the mouse is the correct size and feel for prolonged use.
