What Is The DVORAK Keyboard?

The DVORAK keyboard is also known as the simplified keyboard, and is a keyboard layout patented in the 1930’s by August Dvorak, an educational psychologist and professor of education.

DVORAK Keyboard

Many of us have not even heard of the Dvorak keyboard, since it is nowhere near as popular as the QWERTY keyboard that you and I have in front of us right at this moment.

And it may also come as a surprise to know that most standard operating systems come equipped to support this layout as well.

Many of the higher end ergonomic keyboards also support the Dvorak keyboard layout. Those that are used to the QWERTY layout and typing in it can find that it takes not only a lot of time but also a lot of effort to make the switch from QWERTY to Dvorak and this is something that hobbyists tend to concern themselves about more than others.

What is interesting is that Dvorak layouts are also to be found designed for one handed typing which many may think to adopt. For those single handed users that struggle with typical keyboards, this is great.

For those that want to type and use the mouse at the same time also, this opens up new possibilities.
