You Need To Be Able To Move In Your Office Chair

office chairThe human body is naturally built to be in the bent over position, on all fours, which is why people who work in an office may often start to develop back and neck problems.

The body is structured to support the frame while extended, not when it is compressed by being sat in one position for long periods causing pressure on the intervertebral discs.

However, by following the basic principles of ergonomics and applying them to the type of chair you sit in while at work you may be able to alleviate some of the back problems that you never thought you could escape from so long as you have an office job.

Ergonomics is the scientific study of design that takes into account what the human body needs.  When choosing an office chair you must consider ergonomics, there are a few basic facts that the designers who create the chairs have in mind and you should consider them as well.

Back injuries are the leading cause of missing work days, responsible for a whopping18% of illness complaints. The total cost of this is several billion dollars every year.

You need to know what to look for in your office chair to determine if you need a new one or if you need to adjust the existing one.

You should look for a chair that allows you to re-position yourself into a dynamic healthier position, the chair should allow you to tilt backwards to straighten your spine periodically, and the chair should also offer very solid support to your body.

Being able to move around within your chair is essential to your health because movement allows your muscles to relax and contract and helps stimulate blood circulation which in turn allows your body to better process oxygen and nutrition.
