The research and development that has gone into the design of ergonomic seating has resulted in several different kinds of chairs from Herman Miller. A look at their most popular chair designs:
The Ergon 3 Chair: The first of the Ergon Chairs, developed in the mid 70′s, were supposed to be first research based ergonomic chair.
The Ergon 3 is the third generation ergonomic office chair. The cushions are so contoured as to provide support for the body as well as comfort.
The Ergon 3 is available in three different sizes. The waterfall front edge is designed to ease pressure below the thighs and the cantilevered armrests also offer comfort.
Leaning back, your feet still rest on the ground because the seat itself does not rise. There is a knee tilt mechanism that permits posture change while maintaining balance.
The Aeron Chair: Something of a design classic, the Aeron chair is in the permanent collection of the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art).
It is ergonomically designed to adapt to different shapes and sizes and body types. Not only is it distinctive looking, the innovative suspension provides great balance and support and the chair can be adjusted according to the requirements.
The Posture fit design modification claims to make the chair very comfortable to sit even for hours at a stretch. The chair has no cushioning; the idea is that the surface of the chair keeps the pressure even across the body preventing aches and pains, and keeping one cool as well due to its mesh design.
The chair is interesting looking and can fit into the most casual and most formal of office settings. As an added plus, it is earth friendly, using the sort of materials that make it 94% recyclable.
The Reaction Chair: The reaction chair is designed to respond to the user’s movements and actions and the adjustments he or she makes in position and seated activity.
The chair given consistent support even as one moves in the seat to recline and come forward again – the chair comes equipped with a five positive recline selector so as to offer both support and comfort. Though larger than other chairs of its type, it is able to fit into small spaces as well. The upholstered back has a removable slip cover to alter its look.
The Mirra Chair: The Mirra Chair is another hugely popular and bestselling design, which uses less material to offer greater support. The backrest is made from polymer with 567 geometric shapes to create flex zones. The design remains strong and supportive through many years of use.
